Title Relinquished - WBC Lightweight

According to Boxing Scene, #1 pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines has officially relinquished his WBC Lightweight (135 lbs.) title. Jose Sulaiman of the WBC confirmed that he received a letter from Pacman indicating that he's not going back to the 135-lb. division. That means all 4 sanctioning body belts in the lightweight division are vacant. Pacquiao is scheduled to challenge Ricky Hatton on May 2 for the Ring Junior Welterweight (140 lbs.) title. The interim title fight between Edwin Valero and Antonio Pitalua on April 4 will most likely be promoted to the full WBC lightweight title.
The Philippines drops to 7th tied with Argentina, Japan and the UK. Below is an updated list.

aah. i hate to see us drop soo much at the loss of one title.

let's hope one of our boys gets a shot soon to redeem that lost belt.

and hopefully nietes keeps one of the 3 that we have this saturday.

  3. First of all, thanks for the comment.

Here's my understanding of the Gerry Penalosa and his WBO Bantamweight (118 lbs.) title situation. We know that Gerry will challenge JuanMa Lopez for the WBO Jr. Featherweight (122 lbs.) title on Apr 25. But, before that on Mar. 28, Fernando Montiel and Diego Silva will fight for the interim version of Gerry's title. Btw, Montiel is moving up and officially relinquish his WBO Jr. Bantamweight (115 lbs.) title also on Mar. 28. Jose Lopez and Pramuansak Posuwan will fight for that vacated title. Sorry to digress.

So, if Gerry upsets JuanMa, he relinquishes his title. The winner of the Montiel-Silva fight gets promoted from interim to full title.

If Gerry loses to JuanMa, he keeps his title but is obligated to defend it against the winner of the Montiel-Silva. I believe he is given 60 or 90 days to do that. Otherwise he'll be stripped and the interim is promoted.

If something else comes up contrary to how I understood it, then I'll post it in the blog. Thanks again for your comment.

  4. Hey pareng pinoyflipboi. If you have a google/gmail account, you can sign in and use your google handle when commenting. You can also create an account here in blogger or you can just holler "hey pare" and i already know it's you :)

Yeah man. That quite a steep drop. We need the remaining 3 to hold fort. At least on May 2nd, Pacman is in position to regain another title belt and Bernabe Concepcion has a decent chance of dethroning Steven Luevano.

Btw, I will post the weekend schedule later today. We have a full slate.
